North America knows them as yurts, yet often thinks of them as a Mongolian structure. In fact, 'yurt' is a Russian word for what the people of Mongolia call 'ger'. Perhaps it is fitting that the Russian name stuck, as the earliest evidence of yurts was found in Bronze Age (~3000BC) petroglyphs (rock etchings) in Siberia.
